Barely Afloat, Mostly Adrift, Always Laughing.

A Humorous and Heartfelt Narrowboat Memoir

Life was stuck on repeat—bad dates, bad decisions, and far too many late-night tears in the bath. Then one day, mid-soak, I had an epiphany: I didn’t need another disastrous relationship. I needed a narrowboat.

With zero boating experience, a questionable budget, and my best friend Jelly reminding me I was “absolutely bloody mental,” I threw myself into restoring a canal boat. What started as a grand adventure quickly turned into a chaotic, hilarious, and occasionally heartbreaking journey of self-discovery—set to a soundtrack of questionable music and a fair amount of swearing.

But when I lost Jelly far too soon, Barely Afloat took on a whole new meaning. The boat became more than just an escape—it became a way back to myself.

Poignant, laugh-out-loud funny, and brimming with reckless optimism, Barely Afloat is a memoir about resilience, reinvention, and the life-changing magic of making a complete mess of things.

The Boat Girls 2026 Calendar

In support of Forces Veterans Afloat

The Boat Girls 2026 calendar idea began on a sunny boating afternoon. After passing one too many bare-chested men cruising along, it struck me—why shouldn’t us Boat Girls have the same freedom?

This calendar is a light-hearted, tasteful, and humorous celebration of boat life, but it also serves a serious purpose. All profits go to Forces Veterans Afloat, a charity dedicated to rehoming homeless armed forces veterans on narrowboats and helping them transition to civilian life.

The boating community has given me so much—it’s time to give something back. What better way than Boat Girls helping Boat Boys?
