Narrow Escapes – Channel 4
Narrow Escapes is a heart-warming Channel 4 series following the lives of people who have chosen to live aboard narrowboats on Britain’s canals and rivers. From the freedom of life afloat to the challenges of boat maintenance, navigating waterways and adapting to a different way of living, the series celebrates the colourful characters, unexpected adventures and close-knit community that make life on the water so unique.
My part in the programme is about my adventures as a solo female boater. All the disasters, breakdowns and challenges I encountered and how I navigated around them.
Series 1 was 20 x 1 hour episodes, and I feature in episodes 1, 2, and 3. By the end of the first week’s viewing, we were second only to Gogglebox which has on average, over 2 million viewers per programme. Series 1 continued to out perform any daytime C4 programme until Narrow Escapes was actually featured on Gogglebox itself, which saw viewing figures increase exponentially.
Series 2 of Narrow Escapes aired on Channel 4 12th May 2025 – I feature in episodes 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10
Series 3 aired 20 x 1 hour episodes, and I have a few cameos throughout.
Series 4 is yet to air, but, as promised in series 1, I have indeed taken my little boat to Ireland! And what an epic adventure we have filmed for you…

Feedback from my book ‘Barely Afloat, Mostly Adrift, Always Laughing’ has been pretty overwhelming to be honest.
It took me over 2 years to write as I stumbled over the really heartfelt and personal stuff.
The day I finished it, I thought bugger it, don’t overthink it, just fire the manuscript out to a publisher. 3 hours after that, I’m having a chat with the publisher in chief on the phone about Barely Afloat. A further 2 hours later and I had the full contract ready to sign.
